please help asap tcase swap

i have a friend 97 explorer sport and the transfer case went out. i also have a 92 explorer and i was wondering if the t cases are interchangeable.my friend is going to sell the explorer for like 1000 bucks if the cases are not interchangeable. i really need to know tonight if anyone can help.thanks in advance.

I think it depends on the drivetrain.

The '92 should have the 4.0 OHV V6 with a BW1354 (manual or elec.) t-case. The '97 could have a 4.0 OHV V6 with a BW4405 t-case. If this is true, you can swap t-cases (I've done it). I do not know what t-case came with the 4.0 SOHC V6 (or if the SOHC motor was even offered in '97). Also, I think the 5.0 V8 used the BW4404 t-case and don't think this is a direct swap.
