how much harder is it to make a 1350 transfer case out of a ranger work?because i already one of those along with almost any other part from a ranger

I had the same question and I just never asked or searched for that matter. You could bolt a 1354 manual shift right up to the 5r55e transmission? And stock drive shafts would work? Don't mean to hijack, but don't want to start another thread on this subject either.

Its pretty much the same -- externally, the 1350's biggest difference (from the 1354) is the front output is a slip yoke style where the driveshaft's splined end is inserted into the 1350. But as long as you have the original front driveshaft that goes went the 1350, it should be pretty much the same.

Yes the 1354 (and the 1350) will bolt up to all transmissions that came with the 4.0L OHV or SOHC engine. This includes the A4LD, 4Rxx, 5Rxx, and M5OD transmissions. The rear driveshaft will work w/o any modifications but if your vehicle has the CV front driveshaft, then you will need to pick up a front driveshaft from a 91-94 Explorer because you need a U-joint, not a CV. This is not a problem because Explorers liter most junk yards and a used front driveshaft is probably $25-$50.

The CV front driveshaft looks like this:

This is what the end looks like that bolts up to the 4405 transfer case:

Instead of having that ball end (which is the "CV" joint - or constant velocity joint) in the image above, the front driveshaft has this:

So below is double cardan right? Thanks for the info! I may start searching for a manual shift for a swap.

Yes thats right.

But as far as naming goes, the double cardan techically is a "CV" too.
But its not the type of "ball and cage" type of CV we commonly think of when we hear "CV" (like in the ones in your front axle shafts):

That's a great animation of how that works. I give you a thumbs up!

so if i was going to put a 1350 transfer case in my 95 explorer would i have to use the front driveshaft from the ranger and would it just bolt up or would it need to modified?

and also what is the best way of getting the CAD to engage and dissengage when needed

It'll probably just bolt up. If there are any changes, it would be that the driveshaft needs to be shortened or lengthened.

if i left all the electronics hooked up for the old transfer case could i just swith the switch to 4wd and lock the front CAD? or would that not work because of the manual shift transfer case

99% sure that if you left the shift motor hooked up, the dash on the switch and the CAD will work.

ok so unless the shift motor is still plugged in it wont lock the CAD.Because what i thought might occur is that when you turn the switch its sends a signal to shift motor and another signal to the CAD.Because where would you put the shift motor?Im going to try to post a video showing what my 4wd is doing and the sound thats coming out of it.
