So i had to change my spark plugs today and before i changed them my truck was have a little bit of trouble starting and the typical worn sparkplug sound, the odd clicking sound. And now that i changed and replaced the spark plugs the truck is acting horriable. aweful ideling, the clicking sound is much worse and louder and it is making a horriable smell. i took out all the sparkplugs and re gapped them & replaced the sparkplug cables. also when i first removed the spark plug from cylinder number 3 it had oil or coolant on it, which either means the head gasket is F***ed or my valve guides or piston rings are worn out; but why is my truck ideling worse and making a messed up smell. Please Help me i have a 2000 Ford Explorer 4.0 V6 OHV. i dont understand how a new sparkplugs and cables can cause the truck to act worse. I know what i'm doing i always work on my own cars and trucks

Sounds like you might have a couple of plug wires swapped.

do you have the cylinder numbering and coil pack numbering? cause i believe i have my gear hooked up correctly, i think!
cylinder location fom the firewall down is
3 6
2 5
1 4

and the coil terminal go from the firewall down
3 4
2 6
1 5

thats the numbering for the V6's in the F-150
please help, why did cyclinder number 3's sparkplug have oil or coolant all over it? none of the other spark plugs had it. could that be the reason the truck is acting up?

Wiring Order:

What plugs are in there, and what gap? Did they give you SOHC plugs? What wires? What brand of everything?

Did you unhook or bump any sensors, connectors, or vac lines? Check them all...
