EGR problems... HELP ME PLEASE!

My engine light went on and my friend has a reader so we checked the code and it said it was the EGR valve. I replaced it and the light still comes back on. Any ideas to what I should do?

Check the code carefully. On my 2.9 the EGR has several codes representing several different problems with the EGR system. The valve proper can be one problem but the EGR system cosists of more than just the valve. There is usually some kind of actuator, a position sensor, possibly a vacuum regulator, and of course the wiring and/or vacuum hoses. The number and type of components for the EGR system on your truck varies with the model year.

Which engine do you have?

it is an 01 sport trac, 4.0 sohc engine. I think the code said p0109 and when i looked it up, it said EGR valve.

Did you reset the fault codes after Replaceing part?

P1409 is EGR solenoid fault--this is not the valve, rather it is the solenoid which switches vacuum to the valve---

egr codes begin with P14

I could not locate a p0109---
