After over a year saga fixing my timing chains...this thing started back in April of 2011...I am actually ready to light the candle on this puppy;)

The thing I'm struggling with is that I can't seem to engage the transmission into neutral. The shift indicator inside the vehicle goes to N without any problem but when we get out to push it...she doesn't move at all.

Is there anything I might have accidentally disengaged when I took the engine away from the transmission?

Any help would be great. Can't seem to figure this out.

thanx

Teejay - You know I checked that...only AFTER pushing on the darn thing for 10 minutes:D It wasn't on, thankfully!

you need to crawl under the vehicle, and disconnect the shift cable from the range sensor. put the transmission range sensor all the way towards the rear of the vehicle (this puts the transmission in park)and do the same for the shifter in the truck. a little fine tuning may be needed for asthetics reason. But this sounds like you just didnt get the two synced up again when you reinstalled your trans ^_^ good luck and keep us informed!

Yup, it has been sitting inside the garage since March of 2011. The good news is that the mileage now looks better for the year of the vehicle;)

Zerodevil - That's exactly what I was looking for! It seems like that is what is happening...it's just not syncing up with where the shifter is indicating.

Thanks!

Have you checked brake pads? Cauz they might be rusted to the rotors after sitting for a year? I've heard some cars make a slight pop when they first moves after a downpour and sitting for only a few days - the brakes rust on pretty quickly.

Do you have a good battery in the truck? You need one to shift out of park in a 02+

Yup, just put a brand new battery in it the other day.

Readjusted the range sensor today but that didn't solve the problem. I'll check the brakes tomorrow.

This sounds silly but I wonder if it might have been shifted into high or low 4 wheel drive without me knowing it, although I didn't see the light on the dash indicating it. Wouldn"t the vehicle still move if it was in neutral, albeit harder, even if it was in 4 wheel drive?

I was able to rotate the engine by hand while it was connected to the torque converter so I dont think there's anything wrong there.

Very puzzling...:(
