Hi i have a 2003 ford explorer XLT and i have just brought it and you can start the car with the key but when you go to take the key out i can't unless i take out the plug then the key comes out of the key barrel.Has this happened to you and how can i fix this??
The cylinder needs to be replaced. Happened to me also. Get new one and have it rekeyed (bring your existing key) by locksmith. Install new cylinder and you're done. No need to reprogram keys assuming you had 2 working keys prior to this problem. Your existing keys would be recognized by the PATS because the only thing changed is the mechanical parts and not the electronics.
