1993 ford explorer xlt
Hello fellow ford owners out there...i have a 1993 ford explorer xlt...and yesterday morning when i went to start it, it started up just find for me without any problems, well last night i went to start it, and noticed the battery was dead, and the head lights were not working, not even dim, so i jumped it off and it started right up without any problems, so i thought, when i went to put it in gear, such as reverse, it completely shut off, and everything went dead? any help would be greatly appreciated, i am still fairly new to the explorers and always interested in what all yall fellow folks and ford owners might think it may be. thanks and God bless................

have the alt and battery tested.

Jump start it, and disconnect the jumper cables. Then look at the voltmeter on the dash. If the needle is halfway or more, the problem is almost certainly the battery.

If the engine dies when the jumper cables are disconnected, it is almost certainly the alternator, but the battery has been run flat so it will need to be charged. The battery may not recover depending on its condition.

If you can limp it to the auto parts store, get it tested as suggested above.
