If anyone can please help with the following questions:

I want to apply a NOS system or other brand to my Xplr 98 limited with a few mods -

I am sure I want to go with an easy install and DRY NOS system.

Questions:

I have a gen II K&N Intake system W/heatshield will this cause a problem due to the fact the intake is not "metalic" or non metal. I dont want a metal Intake for heat reasons, I think they get hot and heat the air up more than needed.

(also have a catback exhaust by Gibson dual inlet and a JET chip )

Wich system should I get for just a "playful boost" something I can control easy.

Thanks for any help you can offer

Thanks!

Most dry injection N2O systems can be plumbed into plastic intakes, that shouldn't be a problem. I assume that with your GenII kit you got a hard plastic intake tube, just drill into it like you would metal taking care not to crack it.

I have a ZEX system which on stock vehicles is a dry shot, but ups fuel through the stock system. Nitrous Express (NX) makes good kits, as does NOS. Any of those brands would be good, I think all (for sure ZEX) has easily changed nozzles for diff power levels. With more than a 55 shot though, I'd consider upping the fuel either through the stock system or with a wet injection. Also above that, colder plugs are recommended. I'm thinking though that your JET chip might cause problems with the N2O, they seem to cause problems with everything else  If you're letting the computer up the fuel on it's own, the JET may not do it properly.

Good luck, and we'd be glad to help further!

EDIT: my concerns are for the 4.0 engine. If you have the 5.0, it can obviously handle a larger shot, within reason.

i suggest you take the chip out. one of the things the chip does is advance the timing; this is NOT what you want with nitrous.

is this question to complex???

Thanks for the help so far! I dont want to sound stupid but hey there must be stupid people in the world because they create smart people ;) right?

Anyway another question.

The Jet Chip: I have it here and it is not installed yet. Got it from performancecenter.com -

I want to know: does the chip create good increase in lower end torque? I want a lot of torque! overrall HP is cool as well. I am wondering what exactly the Jet Chip is giving me before I install it - see right now my Explr which by the way is the 4.0L (by choice) seems to have the timing set for a street racer - like when I "gun" it - on the street it kicks 1 gear (its an automatic as if ya didnt know yet) out in a sec. - and stays in 2nd gear till it reaches 6 rpm exactly on the DOT! I like it I get more low end power and get to drap the HP all teh way -

I am saying I dont want the JET chip to effect that. So will it?

And also if I plan on a 50 shot of Dry NOS will the JEt chip be a problem? I am a little lost in the timing issue I want a quick ride all the time and sometimes kick in the NOS like when I feel a little frisky heh?

I guess the bottom line:

What will the Jet Chip do for me when I install it?
What will NOS and the chip not like about each other?
Is it ok to have them both or "stupid"??

Is it normal for my AT 4.0 to go to 6 rpm before shifting (BTW I LIKE IT!)

Thanks!

Nitrous Oxide needs certain engine conditions to work well. One is for the spark to be retarded to combat predetonation (knocking/pinging). The other is that more fuel needs to be supplied to avoid a lean fuel condition. If the computer doesn't adjust properly, you get engine damage.

I've heard almost nothing but problems with JET chips. They're just bad products. There are other chips that will compensate well for nitrous, just the JET chips tend to cause problems and you don't want to introduce a potential for destruction with the nitrous oxide.

I recommend deciding what nitrous shot you want to run, get a dry nitrous kit, and a custom programmed chip. Return the JET and get a Superchip 'flip-chip' or similar product. A flip-chip lets you change computer programs with a switch from 'street' to 'nitrous'.

Thanks for the help!

Sorry about the double post on the other threads.

Just a stupid newbie :bounce: :shoot:

is this the only model available: Dead Link Removed

Do you know where I can get one a little cheaper?

Thanks

(flip-chip)

"flip chip" is definately recommended. like Alec said, you need to retard timing with nos, not advance it. having a chip you can switch will give you best of both worlds. also, having a timing retard setting you will be much less likely to do harm then if you just stayed with the stock timing setting. not that a 50 shot would be that bad, anyway.

With a flip chip that retards timing and adds fuel, you can definately go with a larger shot. For sure a 75 shot. Just depends how much fuel they can add with the computer.

Thanks!

Thanks for the help everyone - I got the papers already t o fill out for the chips settings I will be sending
this Jet Chip back (hope they take it back - Unused)

The flipo chip I am getting for about $500.00 - Doest that price sound about right - (the jet chip was $200.00)

Thanks again -

Also - Does it matter where you "tap" in to the intake? Where's the best spot?

The best spot for the nozzle is usually about 8 inches from the throttle body.

i will second that ive allways heard 8-10 inches from throttle body will give best atomization. i dont have laughing gas on my X but had it on a past project Ch*vy and tapped it exactly 8" and it worked perfectly.

Got the Zex Kit Today - It got to me overnight at the local shop - got a good deal on it compared to net prices I have seen (shipping factor) .....

I will be installing it friday along with some other items I have -

Thanks for the help.
