Hi everyone,
Pulling my alternator.
Been doing searches for an hour for a "how to" and answered most of my questions except one.

I have loosened the bolt holding the tensioner pulley on there, but Im getting scurred because there's no tention being released...
Do you just remove the bolt completely and then rotate to loosen?

Kinda nervous that once I get this thing off I wont be able to get it back on....
Any help would be great!

Assuming you have the 4.0 SOHC engine, you dont need to remove the tensioner. You just put a socket driver (without a socket) on the tensioner and turn it (counter clock-wise) to relieve tension. Then you slide the belt off of the one of the idler pulleys and the belt should be loose enough for you to work on the alternator.

I usually use my 3 ton jack handle on the end of the rachet as a breaker bar, it makes it a lot easier. Make sure you retighten the bolt on the tensioner pulley.

thank you everyone for your help.
Replaced alternator and battery and all seems to be well.
