97 XLT V8
Hi all,

A squealing noise (like chit-chit-chit-chit...) started coming from the engine area of my 97 XLT V8 about two weeks ago and continues to make noise whenever the car is running (both in idle and when driving). It appears (I think) to be coming from one of the pulleys running the serpentine belt.

Can you guys please tell me if there is anything I can do to remedy the problem? Is this common on Explorers (V8's specifically)? Could it be something else that is making the noise?

Thank you in advance!!
Chris

Find a napa and get a idler pulley and the belt tensioner.
It is it not a fairly new belt get one of them also.

It takes all of 10 minutes to swap these parts atleast on a 97 w/SOHC. If you can wait a few days you will get a decent price on the parts from www.fordpartsnetwork.com

it's def. the idler pulley
mine does it on and off, depending on weather.
Somtimes it won't squeak, sometimes only for a while after starting it up, and sometimes not at all.
my truck's still under warranty, and I need to take it in for the 4 month checkup anyway so I'll have them replace it, if it's covered hehe
