2004 Ford Explorer XLT
Ok guy's just got my 2004 4.6L v8 explorer a few days ago it has 122k on it, I recently changed out the LSD gear oil and put the friction modifier in, so as soon as I finished I took it for a test drive and during the test drive I was trying to pass a car and the gas pedal was dead! no power or anything I mashed it all the way to the floor and it would do absolutely nothing but it would idle and thats it, i already changes the EGR valve but nothing...im stumped and pissed off that i have a vehicle im paying on and i cant even use it... i cleaned the TB and everything... i had no issues, I did get a CEL and little wrench when it did happen and had like 15 of them, now this morning after the EGR replacement I have 3, P2104, P2112 and P2111 so I don't know what to do :( it's just so frustrating...this truck was fine, one more thing when I first got the truck I had to push the gas half a inch down then it launched foward but when I cleaned the TB It went away, thanks guys!

you either have a wiring issue with the throttle body (sensor) and/or replace the TPS. When that fails it goes to limp mode as you described (decreased power)

assuming you didn't mess up the throttle body and sensor during cleaning.
you can verify by removing the air intake and check if the butterfly opens up completely when you press on the gas.

electronic throttle control

P2104: Throttle Actuator Control System - Forced Idle
P2111: Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Open
P2112 Ford - Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Closed
Possible causes
- Throttle Body Plate Binding
- Faulty Throttle Actuator
- Throttle Actuator harness is open or shorted
- Throttle Actuator circuit poor electrical connection

Starting with the 2004 models the throttle cable was replaced with an electronic throttle control. Unfortunately, they're not as reliable as a cable and fairly expensive to replace. Maybe the torque reaction to the acceleration pulled the connector loose.

If that doesn't help AutoZone sells a replacement motor for $57: Dorman/Throttle Body Motor

Thanks guys my local O'Reillys has the motor thingy for 70$ and TPS for 40$, also do you think it could be my gas pedal assembly?s Some guy was saying his just went out? But now I have a bigger problem... the genius people at ford put tons of blue locktite on the TPS bolts and while removing it the damn bolt broke inside the TB housing bolt hole! I've managed to successfully get one bolt out but the other is still in there does anyone know how I would be able to take it out now? possibly drilling out with a small drill bit? Thanks again I really appreciate all the help from yall!!!

You could drill it, then tap it or use a nut and bolt if you have room. Those screws aren't structural (like wheel lugs), so they just have to be tight enough to hold the TPS in place.

This is a fairly common failure, both the TPS and the snapped screws ;)

Its not your pedal.

When you cleaned the TB, was the power disconnected? If not, it's possible you damaged the motor.

Thanks guys! Went out and got a new TPS and Throttle body motor and she fired right up!! I was so excited and happy!! :D now I just have to figure out how to fix that annoying vibration from where I assume to be the LSD :( I already changed the fluid to 85w-140 and went to ford to get the friction modifier and still the same old vibration, my power steering looks like chocolate milk so I wonder if it's the pump/rack and pinion that is vibrating, also I have a bad passenger side wheel hub bearing :(, could it maybe be a bad rear bearing or the clutch pack and spider gears in the LSD are done, if anyone has any other info or know fixes please let me know, again Thanks for everyone's help I greatly appreciate it!
