I just bought my explorer last week its a 1996 4dr auto with 4wd i got it for 5000 I got it from a private owner so i have to keep it. I took my system oput of my old acura and put it in the explorer I connected everything and my cd player stoped coming on so i took it to a local audio shop and they tested everything for me. The ground and power are fine but evertime i hook the remote wire up to the fuse for the cd player pops. im useing the stock cd player with a low converter....

and here's ther other thing my left brake light goes in and out and so does my left door door lock and my rear left window... and there a small dent on the left side so im thinking its a eletrical problem..... and the guys at the dealer said that it would cost me 45 to look at it and fix any minor problems if there are any ... and here is the problem do u guys think that tyhe left side acting up and the cd player fuse being blown are both the same problem or diffrent?

Wow, interesting problem... First off I'd recomend ditching the stock changer if your funds allow it... You can sell it on the board for anywhere between $75-100... Then just get a decent deck, that would solve that problem and give you a much better unit...

As for the lights, sounds like you have a short somewhere in the wireing... Those can be a PITA to track down... You say its a 4x4, we're going wheeling on the 24th, easy trail if you want to join us...

yeh mi still gotta get my car checked out if its all good ill go........I have the cd player from the acura.... its not stock its a sony cda 1004 or something like that but would that solve my problem? Is the stock cd player externaly fused in the fuse box? If I installed my soiny deck would it help any? my friend knows how to do that and the connector kit is only like $20 so do u think it would work or would the fuse just keep blowing?

If you install a sony deck and changer then it has nothing to do with the old wiring for the stock changer... I'm positive that would solve the changer problem... Not sure about the locks and tail light though..

naw..... thats not whats hapaning.... im trying to run a amp like a sub amp .. well here im trying to run a hifonics hercules to 2 Id max's The ground and everything is hooked up fine. And i spliced the remote wire and have a conector on it evertime i plug in the remote wire the fuse for the cd player in the fuse box blows which sucks because the system is all installed rca power and ground are all wroking but the remote wire is acting up

I am but it keeps poping the fuse Im thinking i have it hooked up to the wrong remote wire u know hows there 2 connectors.. I have it running form the yellow and black cord I always thought that thre blue wire was the remote be they said it was diffrent stock did u put a after stock cd player in your explorer if so which wire did u use for your remote?

I have an alpine CD/MP3 player in mine... And yes its the blue wire... I've never heard of it being anything other than the blue wire...

it definetly should be the blue wire and it might have a little white line going along it too. that'll set it apart from any other blue wire.

maybe blue is power antenna and blue/white is remote-turn-on? they may be allowed to draw different amounts of current from the HU

i think the plain blue is the antennae but i know that the blue/white is the remote for a fact.

if that never ever fixes anything, wire the remote of the amp to a ignition wire like the red wire of your HU is...

actually it's much easier just cutting a two inch piece of remote wire and wiring it from the power wire on your amp to the remote wire on your amp. and then when you turn your car off just pull the wire out of the power wire part. do keep the power wire in though.

this is an outboard amp we're talking about now? maybe it's just me but having to yank a wire every time i shut off my truck doesn't sound that easy! ;) what if you trace that remote wire back and splice it to the ignition lead the head unit is into? or the switched 12 volt supply of the fuse block? it sounds easy to forget to yank that wire now and then. it'd be EASIER in my opinion, to wire it to a switched power supply now than call AAA for a jump start later. :p

whats an outboard amp?

See hers the deal i havent spliced the blue and white wire at all they told me that the yellow and black wire was the remote that why i was asking if anyone with a 1996 explorer had did an install ill prolly try and do the white and blue wire tomorow

hmm...if these are the wires coming out of your head unit, no wonder you're blowing fuses! yellow is your power lead (constant 12V i think, to retain the clock, presets, memory, etc) and black is your ground. you should be glad it's blowing fuses, otherwise your headunit would be blown instead!! you definately want to splice the remote wire from your amplifier to the blue wire with the white stripe from out of your head unit. and make sure you have fresh fuses! ;)

****ing car toys........ they told me that it was the yellow wire i knew that was wrong no wonder the clock went out...... ok i think ill go up to cartoys and have them take out the deck agasin and ill try the blue and white wire and it was a yellow wire with a black stripe... but still ok if i get it doen before work ill tell u guys if it worked or not
