Ok.. what's everybody running on their 5.0s?

Ford just diagnosed my missing problem as a bad #3 plug wire... just couldn't stomach the $625 bill they were going to throw at me for changing plugs/wires..

Ford's price on stock plug wires is around $200

Can anyone suggest a replacement?

Thanks!

If you want the Ford replacement wire set contact Ford Parts Network at http://www.fordpartsnetwork.com/

These folks are great.

There are also many aftermarket wire sets availablr; I like Jacpbs and Magnacore.

Good luck.....

TAYLOR SPIRO PRO! I got mine from Summit racing. They were right at $70 including shipping. They will have to order them which takes about 2-3 weeks. They come in black, blue or red.

You can get lifetime warranty wirwes at Auto Zone real cheap and then you'll never have to worry about buying another set. If you want a high performance set then Taylor or MSD makes excellent wires with real low resistance. Probably overkill for a near stock application but since I race my Mustang, I tend to like the higher perofmance sets.

i got the autolite replacements from kragens (CSK) they were $30

EDIT: i just realized you have a 302.... heck, get a mustang magazine and let your eyes and fingers figure out what to get... see what the pros are using... and if you can afford that...then call and order....

The Mustang (5.0)wires won't work because they do not use the D.I.S.(Distributorless Ignition System) .

Hey, thanks for all the replies!!

Well.. Autozone was out of the Bosch premiums.. they are on National backorder.. Ford is out as well.. they too are on National backorder..

A friend turned me to http://www.fordpartsonline.com they had the stock wires.. for $98.. so I scooped them up.

Thanks again...

Just curious, how many miles do you have on your explorer to need new plug wires?

I only have 56k miles on it, so I am a little disappointed that they did not last longer.

I've been through the bad plug wires from Ford twice, once they replaced "ONE" wire, then when it was outta warranty I copuldn't buy 1, I had to buy the set. I don't know if you've put them on or not, it's a TOTAL PAIN!! Lots of clips everywhere, get ready for scraped knuckles. I was in a bind before, but I won't buy the factory wires again. Good luck!

once they replaced "ONE" wire

hehe, you have to love warranty work! Like the others didn't fire just as many times.
