i have 90,000 miles on my plug wires and will be upgrading them soon. i looked in my haynes manual and it seemed extremely easy to change my wires in my 96 5.0. i did a search here to try to help me decide which wires to use and if i would be able to do it myslef easily. i didn't really find a satisfactory answer for either of those questions.
what kind of wires should i go with?
can i do it myslelf withoug too much hassle?
should i consider some kind of a spark enhancing kit?
will my motorcraft platinum plugs with 20,000 miles have any negative effect on the performance of the wires?
what kind of improvements would new wires create?
if anyone has used a ignition upgrade kit on a similar application with success please tell me about it.

help

i would change your plugs when you change your wires, it makes life a little easier. i chose magnecor kv85 8.5 mm wires, and i have had no problems and they have a great smooth idle and smooth revs.

Ditto on the Magnecor wires. The Motorcraft plugs will work fine with the wires. The Magnecor wires will probably smooth out the idle and give you a little more seat of the pants performance. You may also see a slight increase in fuel mileage.

Save your money for other mods and forget about the ignition upgrade. Ford makes a very strong ignition system.

good you guys are on the same page as what i was thinking, i wasn't really expected anyonoe to tell me to get any kind of an upgrade. are the magnecores worth the extra 40 dollars?

I got Bosch wires, they are nice (pre-greased and all). Some people suggest a little wider gap with "performance" wires, I went ahead and did that, seems to work fine. don't get an ignition upgrade, but if you want the MSD one, email me and we'll talk (I bought one, but haven't ever installed it).

where'd you get the bosch wires and how much do they run. so far i have taylor for 52 and magnecor for 100 something. hopefully they will be in the middle. thannks

Bosch wires from Autozone, ummm dang I want to say 35ish but it's been a few months

I recommend Jacobs plug wires. I ordered them from Explorer Express online. You might as well do everything at one time. :bounce: :shoot:

I bought my Magnecor wires at Cyberspace Automotive Performance. They cost $68 plus shipping. When I bought mine, they sent an e-mail stating it may be 2 to 4 weeks for delivery but I got them in about 5 business days.
