2000 Ford Explorer XLT
I have a 2000 Explorer XLT and sometime 2 yrs ago one by one my door handles started giving out. At one point in all this, I had to replace the drivers side outside door handle when the handle completely busted, so all my wiring was exposed on the driver side once I removed the panel to fix it. I never got around to putting the panel back on afterwards and so the inside of the drivers door has been exposed since then. Then one day last year my doors started locking and unlocking and the locking actuators were acting up and going insane while I was driving, so I found the relay fuses to the locks and I took them out, so from that point on I could no longer lock or unlock my door but it was the only thing that stopped the locking actuators from rapidly engaging and killing my battery. Because I don’t lock the doors since the fuses are out, the alarm shouldn’t engage (in fact the only time it does engage is if I accidentally hit the panic button on the key fob). Well earlier this week my windows stopped working. They’ll roll down but not roll back up, unless I turn the car off and wait a few mins and then turn it back on. And then yesterday I got home from running errands, shut the car off, and before I even got out of the car, the whole vehicle responded as if I had hit the lock button on the fob (with 3 short bursts from the alarm itself) and then the alarm starts going off and won’t stop no matter how many times I press the unlock button, or lock button or anything. And since then it’s been parked and every time I open a door the alarm goes through the same cycle - 3 short bursts followed by the horn honking nonstop until it eventually stops on its own. There is no power to my power locks since I had removed the relays to them back when it went crazy that one day, so I can’t figure out what’s causing this or how to fix it. I assumed that since the inside drivers door panel is off, and that this happened right around the time that my windows are acting up, that it would be something to do with the exposed wiring on the drivers side door but I just went through all the wires and they’re all fully intact. What else could it be?

This isn't my forte, and possibly compound issues here from all I was reading, but to rule out something, does the alarm go off when you open OTHER doors too? ....maybe you didn't try that yet, but let me know outcome on that....with all the variables going on here maybe a partial mechanism in your drivers door "went down" so the alarm "thinks" that door is locked now, hence every time you open it alarm goes off....if it happens on all doors that would rule this potential theory out. There's a few layers to this Explorer lock / latch / actuator setup....maybe something's off on just your drivers door for this ONE issue.

I haven’t tried that - that’s a great idea to try out. I’ll test it in the morning. Right now I don’t want to upset the neighbors since it’s 10:30 at night here and my neighbor next door is a little old lady who’s bedroom window is literally right next to where our driveway is. But I’ll let you know what happens when I test it out in the morning - thank you for that suggestion

Okay so I tried it today and it went off even when I shut the door on the passenger side. It was crazy today cuz it triggered the whole thing where it fully shut down my vehicle and wouldn’t let me start it. I had to disconnect the battery for a bit for it to let me start the car.

Does your power mirrors work? I am thinking bad ground.
There is ground #G500, in the driver door.
The door relays are located behind the cargo area panel driver side. Same as Rap system.
If the power mirrors work then G500 is good.
Can you unplug the driver door lock actuator?

What are the problems?
1. The lock actuators locking and unlocking!
Response- they go bad. Replace them.
A) fuse removed. Re-Install the fuse and disconnect the power cable too the lock actuator.
B) you do not lock the doors.
2. You replaced driver side door handle!
Response did you connect all the wires on the lock mechanism?
3. problem--Alarm Keeps going off!
Response- for the RAP system to active, you need to arm it. By Locking the doors. When do you that.
A) Does theft light come on on the dash?
B) is the door ajar light on the dash?
4. Problem--Windows stop working.
? Is that all windows
It could be the GEM module or just the one window motor.
5. The RAP module , talk too the door lock module.
Also it talks too the GEM module.
Still working a solution

Double Check your door boot, make sure the wires inside the door boot havent fatigued and broken open, they may be shorting out with one another.

I had posted this wiring diagram on another post. it should give you ideas on how/why the door locks are locking unlocking. looks like if any of the control wires touch ground they will unlock/lock the doors. Double check that door boot.

From my own experience, on a different car.
(2 door) My passenger side door lock was clicking.
So I replace the passenger side door actuator. The result was after the replacement both actuator are going wild. My next step too replace driver side actuator. The lock actuator do go bad. They over 25 years old. The heat destroy the plastic.
