hmmmmm...I guess I'll bite.
<grin> I dont know know if this was directed at me or the other guy, but look.it boils down to this.
You say you have 200k and no major repairs.
The way I figure it is:
1) You drive all highway miles........much easier to rack up high miles in short time, less impact on vehicle, or
2) You havent driven the whole 200k yourself, not knowing WHAT was done to your trcuk prior, or
3) You are conveniently forgetting some repairs, or
4) You have a different definition of "major issue" than I do, or
5) You really do have 200k miles of mixed driving and are lucky enough to have no problems...
WHATEVER the reason, the fact of the matter is that this truck gets driven 8-9k a year, light commuting. Oil changes and maint every 3k miles.....treated as good as if not better than all my other cars....and they have had FAR fewer problems if taken in comparison to mileage, etc.
Ok, you have had a great expereience with your particular X......Before I bought my Explorer ,I did a LOT of online research and found this forum....I was banking on the stories of folks who have claimed to rack up 150k+ trouble free miles...
Well, since buying into the X and reading more stories, turns out that different people have different definitions of "trouble free".
I would hardly call most of the issues *I* faced "small things"....a tranny is NOT a "small thing", nor is a fuel pump rupturing.........
In over 400k miles on the other cars *I* owned or drove, I NEVER had tranny go...mine goes on the X at 70k miles...and it turns out that the X is KNOWN for bad trannys.
Same with the rad arm bushings, same with almost every other "small thing: I have had go wrong on this truck. We're not talking about a chrome hood ornamnet falling off...we are talking about mechanical failures of one sort or another. And this truck has seen an inordinate number of them in the 40k miles I have owned it. Its not my opinion, its fact, for my particular truck. Ok, maybe I got a "Monday" or "friday" truck. Point is, its still an Explorer, and its till got a lousy repair record, one that doesnt fit with the maintenance it is given.
Sure, at 200k miles, I would be expecting the problems I have had...and I would welcome that....but MY X has needed TOO many major items IMHO for a car with under 100k miles.
"I'd rather push a Ford than drive a CHevy" is a cute enough thing to say at parties, and I even used to say similar stuff........ but when your family depends on a vehicle, it doesnt cut it. There comes a time when dumping money hand over fist into a car isn;t sensible or even possible. Brand loyalty means zilch when your paycheck has to pay for the necessities of life and not just a ride. been there, done that.
Why dont I get rid of the X ?? Plain and simple...its worth less than I owe, and I have to pay it off before I can get into something else.
Plain and simple economics.
I have already said I actually like the truck itself....but there is no denying it is the most expensve car to operate I have owned so far. Maybe it will go another 50k miles with no problems at all. I aint holding my breath though. I also never said they were all bad. But sure enough seems to me like there are a slew of Xs even on this forum with "common problems"......
It's OK not to be ecstaticly in love with your car.....its JUST a machine.....

I have also owned a number of vehicles in my time and I have to say my X has held up the best. Just cause you got a bad one dont mean that they are all bad. I would rather push a Ford than drive a Chev. Mabye you just dont take care of it like the rest of us. Sorry for sounding mad but that pisses me off to see that people get bothered by stupid little things. If you dont like it sell it!
