Hello, I just picked up a 2000 Merc Mountianeer and was wondering if I can add the Ford 6 disc changer?

Would it be easier and cheaper to get an aftermarket system?

Thanks for any input,

Sam

You can add an aftermarket changer to the Ford headunit with an interface that is sold, or one can be added with an FM modulator.

Better quality sound will come from an all aftermarket set up. Depending on the $$$ you are willing to spend, you can get aftermarket in-dash changers, or an in-dash player hooked to a 6, 12, or multiple changers.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to try and keep the stock head unit as it has CD and Cassette. It seems like it would be a pretty big hassle to find a Head Unit that would fit in the stock location.

Thanks for the input.

eclipse has a tape/cd headunit... it's older, so you might have to ebay...

Who uses cassettes anymore anyways? ;)

You have a good point. I don't even have any cassettes. I just don't want a gaping hole in the dash. I don't know anything about Car Audio. The last major audio purchase was a set of pipes for my corvette.

Are there after market set ups that that will look good?

Thanks again for all the help. I admittedly ride the Car Audio Short bus.

Any aftermarket unit can be made to look good. You can get a dash kit that will fill in the spaces. Go to Sounddomain.com

They have decent prices (better than Crutchfield) and they will throw in the dash kit and wiring harness for free.

I just bought from them and installed a new player in my sister's Tahoe. It was $80 less than Crutchfield. Nice looking install kit came with it. With a wiring harness, you just match wire colors and plug in.

2 DIN aftermarket head units look niiiice  . Especially with a big ol' LCD on it. Filler plates just look silly to me. Ebay has plenty of 2 DIN head units.

I have an in dash 6 cd changer in my 01 sport.
I am looking to get an aftermarket player. I would be willing to sell this one.
You can email me at conwell79@comcast.net and mabye we'll work something out. It should fit the location and wiring harness fine.
