ok i have a 1996 Ford Explorer xlt and i have been trying to figure out what has been causing my problems for a few months now and i just cant get it figured out so maybe someone here can help.

lets start with the initial problem:

the car would not start all the time i could hear the clicking but it just wouldn't turn over it seemed like i could get it to start but turning the key to the off position and then trying to turn it over again. sometimes moving the key slowly seemed to work, some times fast, some times when i jiggled it.

i got some advice on this problem and they recommended that i replace the ignition switch on the bottom of the steering column witch i did.

this did not fix the problem then i got some advice that maybe it was the ignition key cylinder was broken or cracked so i pulled it out and took at look at and every thing looks fine so i put it back in.

currently the problem im having is this

the Dash lights will not power on at all other then the Theft Light when im in the car with the doors locked. the Power windows will not work at all from any switch in the car. the power locks on the Driver side can only unlock the car wont lock, both lock and unlock work on the passenger side. the headlights and hazards all work.

i have checked all the fuses and they are all fine i have a brand new battery in the car.

any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.

Look at the wire loom under the carpet by the driver side door. Pull the connector apart on the drivers door. It is bolted together. Most likely your door lock problem is in this area of the wire loom. Fixing any wire problem here could fix more that one thing.

Seems to me, that possibly you have an Anti-theft problem, OR a connection problem somewhere in the starter circuit.

well i thought this too seeing as i failed when i removed the Key Cylinder i did not disconnect the battery first and the horn started going off. i then reset the system by using the keyless entry on the door i also locked myself in the car and unlocked it from the inside to reset it. is there something else i should do here?
