Last Aug, I bought a '98 Escort with 43,000 mile. Original owner was 80 when she bought it, and it mostly sat in her garage. I bought it from the son-in-law of her neighbor who had maintained it for her. The SIL only had it a few months and needed to sell it to fund the purchase of a F150 SuperCrew. Legit low mile vehicles can be found.
And yeah, you won't be winning many drag races with an OHV, but then my '94 had 3.27 gears. Dependable though. The a/c compressor on my Sport Trac wouldn't cycle on. Turned out the o-ring that seals the connector on one of the pressure switches had gotten down in the connector and was preventing electrical contact. I pulled the o-ring out, plugged in the connector, and the compressor cycled on. Easiest fix I ever made.
