I agree with the others here. I'd say fix it up, and accept it's deficiencies, like ride and handling.
The only real viable way to combine those two vehicles, would be to swap the chassis's, not the individual parts. The chassis is a separate frame, to which everything else is attached. The 1st and 2nd gen. Explorers are very much the same dimensionally, but that 3rd gen. Explorer is much much different.
I am swapping a 93 body onto a 99 chassis, and it will work out great, because the body mounting points are almost the same. That 3rd gen. chassis will undoubtedly have nothing in common where they come together. There surely would be large numbers of parts that would have to be cut, removed, trimmed, or moved.
I would love to have my 98 Mountaineer body on a 3rd gen. chassis, but just like your idea, it would be way too much trouble. Good luck,
