I recently purchased a 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer and it is a great vehicle so far, however I think I may have a vacuum leak and I am looking for some help.

When I am accelerating I hear a hissing noise coming from the passenger floor board area. It doesn’t seem to happen all of the time, but it does happen often. Also, under acceleration, I notice that the A/C stops blowing until I let off of the gas pedal. I assume that the two issues are related, but I am not 100% sure.

If anyone has any idea what the problem is, or what a possible fix could be, please respond. I would rather not take it to the dealer and get charged for something I could fix myself.

Thanks in advance.

common issue on here, people have had various solutions/fixes. i had mine looked at a couple of times and they replaced a valve twice to no avail. mine is intermitant as well and have learned to 'deal' with it. annoys the heck out of me, but not going to address again until someone has a 100% solution.

Yesterday I removed the check valve and blew some air through it. It seemed to be working correctly so I put it back on. Drove the vehicle a couple of times and it seemed to have fixed the problem. Went out and drove this morning and the hissing sound is back.

I just called Ford and ordered a new check valve, should be in Friday, so hopefully that fixes the problem.

Talking about the PVC valve? This a 4.0?

does it happen on straight roads, or uphill?

these trucks will at times do this, since engine will produce less vacuum and ac on...

It seems to do it on both straight roads and uphill.

I have the same issue, comes and goes as it pleases. I get it mainly around 2500 rpm and only when accelerating not cruising. I've had months where it was there, then right before I take it in, goes away. I am going to take mine in soon since its annoying and I hate that my ac turns goes to my vents instead of my body in 100 degree weather. Heres my thread:

Oh and it didnt matter for me if it was hot or cold outside, in the winter I had the same noise issue only I never noticed a heater problem since I always keep it on vent. Let us know if you find the solution

I bought a new check valve from the dealership and put it on last Friday. I haven't had any issues since, so hopefully that was the fix.

Oh great, I hope for your sake and mine it is too! How much did it run you and how easy is it to get to? I'm hoping not to drop another wad of cash next time I go to the dealership lol.

The check valve was $14.10 and it literally took 5 seconds to swap out. It was super easy. If you need pictures or anything to help you fix it, just let me know.

Where is the check valve located?

Would you please post photos of where the check valve is located?

Thank you,

Same problem here...sounds like the check valve is a good starting point. Pictures would be great!

Thanks

have the same problem on my '08 Ford Explorer XLT V6. Called up the dealer on my lunch break and installed the part in 5 minutes in the parking lot. XR3Z-19A563-AA

Is any difference with Motorcraft - Vacuum Control Valve
Part # YG360? I have the exact same issue with the hissing noise right now and I am ticking to get the Check valve.

Thanks in advance

I bought the YG360 off of amazon and it worked for me. The black side of it is a little bigger than my stock one but I was able to push the rubber boot over it no problem.
