Hey, gents. Been lurking and reading for a while now.
I'm scoping out Four Tracs. Initially I was drawn in by the styling. I've got two samples that are my primary targets - a 2007 limited that looks clean enough to eat off of and a 2010 XLT, both with the 4.0 V6.
I've read Tech's nightmare journey that seems to be a compilation of all the problem spots - bearings, timing belt chatter, coolant leak. My first question is whether that experience is typical or if these are generally reliable.
Questions I have beyond that:
1) Everyone would prefer a V8, but does it hold specific advantages over the V6 other than power? Better reliability? Better towing capacity? (Google seems to have differing answers on that last one).
2) Problems to check out other than the problems I mentioned above?
Though it had no attached FAQ's in the FAQ thread, I saw language that suggested the 2007's have more issues. Would like more input on that - both to the types of problems, severity and frequency. In a nutshell, should I be running like hell from a 2007 that otherwise looks good?
The truck would be used for beach/camping trips, daily driving all year in the northeast (plenty of ice/snow), and eventually we plan on getting a small RV trailer (along the lines of a Shasta or similar).
Appreciate any advice or input.
Craig
