Anyone have any of the same symptoms after their cam tensioner fix?
I had mine swapped out a few months ago. I still get that "muffled marbley" sound from what seems like the rear of the engine. I can hear it when the engine is warming up and I accelerate. After a while, it stops. Otherwise, it seems to run OK.

Not on my '97. I had the new tensioners installed last November. I have put on about 12K miles since and this is the longest that it has remained quiet. There is also a bulletin regarding the camshft guide. It is just described as a metallic sound that can be easily heard with the hood opened, mostly at idle. If you haven't had this done, it might be worth looking into. It another no cost repair. Either that or maybe the repair shop installed an incorrect (older) tensioner kit or didn't replace them at all. If the noise sounds the same as you attributed to the tensioners a few months ago, maybe try a different dealer and don't mention that another dealer replaced them a few months ago. If you do, they'll tell you to take it back to them, they don't like to fix other dealer's mistakes.

my dad has the same problem, except his sounds like a DIESEL! and we're taking it to ford tomorrow, so i'll post updates on what they fixed and if it went away or not

mine won't crank now that i had that cam tensioner replaced. its been idling really weird (sometimes high, sometimes low) ever since and today it won't stay cranked (if thats proper wording). if i keep the gas down it will, but if i let it idle it cuts off. maybe a throttle sensor? now i have to call the ford tow truck number and get it towed the shop. oh what fun!

It sounds like they may have seriously screwed up when they replaced the lower intake manifold gaskets when they replaced your tensioners. A slight air leak will cause a rough idle, and make it seem like it wants to stall. If they forgot to put an o-ring in or something else like that, it would probably cause a huge air leak.

Nothing is simple anymore!
But good stuff to follow up on.

I went to "different" dealer to get the thing fix. I was impressed with these guys. They seemed straight up and on the ball.
eg, no whining, "cry baby" or "the sky is falling" stuff. But, I think I will have to take a trip back. GGRRR! What a waste of time!!!

Is the camshaft guide bulletin anywhere out on the web?
I think I heard you said it makes noise at idle? Is that toward the rear of the engine? ... and very audible?

PS I don't think trying another dealer and "not mentioning" the previous work will fly in this day and age. They track VIN numbers with a vengence for upgrades (and other stuff).
Also, you name and address so they can send you endless garbage through the mail. (recalls excluded)

You know between the tires and all these recalls, second visits.... I'm wasting a lotta time with this cruiser.
????Fix Or Repair Daily???? maybe not daily, but it seems like a lot.
