Hi all,
I'm new to your forum, but it looks to have a lot of good info for those of us that drive or work on explorers.
Anyway, I recently lost the tranny in my truck after driving it for about two years with no overdrive or engine brake it finally died. I put in a used tranny and now have the following issues, No Converter lockup, no 3-4 shift , and the truck will no longer shift into 4WD.
I know a used tranny isn't a great idea but it was cheap and my time was free.
I'm wondering if it's some sort of electrical issue because of the 4WD problem, and the tranny seems fine otherwise.
Any input?
Thanks

Did you remember to plug the wireing harness' back together? You may also try disconnecting them and spraying the contacts with electrical cleaner then reconnecting them.

Hellooo all,
All is well with the infamous a4ld and 4wd. Despite my suspicions they were totally un-related. I got a wiring diagram and my Dad and I spent a good hour chasing wires through out the truck trying to diagnose the 4wd issue. We checked the switch, ESC, and all the wires to and from, after this we whacked the electric shift motor with a hammer and all was well :D and while I was beating this with the hammer I decided to plug in the electronic speed sensor ( as it had been left tucked in the frame rail, outta sight, outta mind, right?)And the tranny now works like new;)
The moral of the story, plug it in! And never hesitate to hit ANYTHING with a hammer!!!
Oh well.

Congrats.... let me point you to the Shift Motor Rebuild Thread in the stickies forum. You may be needing it sooner or later.
