while i was looking for an amp to power my two MTX 12"s, i found the Power Acoustik OV2-820 Gothic series for only $110 at etronics.com.
http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=powov2820&SVBName=279
it powers 180watts x2 channels at 4 ohms. That price is rediculously cheap, so im afraid there must be some downside to this amp. Does anyone know if power acoustik makes good amplifiers?

that amp will never put out that power. and if it does, it will do so with a lot of distortion. power acoustik is basically a flea market level brand. not quite as bad a legacy or pyle, but still not a good choice. you have quality subs, dont buy a crappy amp. they usually dont have a long life expectancy either. i have seen a few burn up after about a year (one literally burned up  )

Which MTX subs do you have? Whats the ohms and RMS?

MTX Thunder 4000's
200 RMS, 400 Peak @ 4 ohms

what brands do u recomend then?
pioneer or sony?

This is my biased opinion, but running an mtx 4250d to those subs is a good option. They were basically made for eachother.

4250d - one 6000, two 4000s
6500d - one 8000, two 6000s

etc etc.

I had a 4250d hooked up to my two 4000s and they hit right where they're supposed to. Spend the extra money and you won't be disappointed.

If you plan on upgrading your subs though, you should buy a bigger amp than the 4250. Otherwise that's the most you'll ever need.

Ramble ramble..

Or, check out the USX 600D @ thezeb.com...It will diliver 375x1 @2ohms, so it will work for your amp. It is a D class and cost $160...

I have the Power Acoustik G1500-2 BEST AMP i have ever had. They powered 2 12 inch rockford fosgate powers in a ported box that was in my old SUV.
That got me 163.2 at a bass comp.

Another thing about the 4250d that I didn't mention before..

When I put in my new system, the 4250d and subs were just laying around.. So I decided to see how tough that amp really was and ran it at 1ohm.... For 6 weeks.... And it's still going.... Those little amps are tough as hell.

I can't say enough good things about MTX amps. They've really stepped up in the past couple of years.

On another note, Xtant/MTX bought out Coustic. Those new subs will pound. The midlevel series weighs just over 20lbs, 400w rms/800w peak, carbon fiber cone, and can be found all over the place at around $140-160 each. Great buy if you're just getting into car audio and don't want to break your wallet to get good sound.
