I got out of my truck the other day and noticed that my power antenna was not going down like it shoud although I heard the little motor working. Now its stuck in the up position and wont move but the little motor still runs for about 30 sec. until it finally stops.
How much does a new power antenna cost? or is there a way to fix this w/out spending to much $$.

I live in Calgary,AB. The weather here gets so cold that power antennaes freeze up. After a few years, the motor just gives up. Here's what i think anyway. Unless you go through car washes that require you to lower the antennae, or you REALLY need the thing stored, i'd just leave it. I've driven around with mine stuck in the up position, there's no wind noise whatsoever and my radio works like a charm regardless. You can fix it if you want, but i feel that it's something that should be either low on the priority list, or left as is. A retractable antennae, in my opinion, is for asthetics only.
No offence, and thanks for hearing me out. :-)

Sounds like some broken linkage. It should be pretty obvious where the problem is if you take the unit out. Also, I think I've seen "new" ones on Ebay before. Give that a try.

Thanks section525, I would leave it as is if I were going to keep the truck . Its not that important to me really. But I'm moving to London at the end of the summer and I know that will bring the value of my truck down. I want to get the most out of it as I can.

I just saw one on EBAY for $15 for a 99' I don't know if it 'll work.

I saw the same exact one! Does any one know if a 99 power antenna will fit a 96? I have 7 hours till the auction ends.

I'd guess it would be the same. Check carparts.com for replacement antennas for both years. If they have the same part number.. there you go! If they don't have them at carparts.com, check a specific Ford parts place. Good luck.

Oh. I didn't know you were selling your truck.

Hey man, I just noticed that you are from Calgary, so am I! Where abouts do you live? North, East, South, West? Maybe we can get together sometime, like an Explorer get together!? I have always had the idea that it was just Paul Gagnon and I on this board who were from Calgary!

Hope to hear from you either through the board or through the e-mail!

Regards,

Peter

I really dont want to sell the truck, I love it. But I dont want to keep making payments on it durring my year and and a half rotation in london. Would take it w/ me but thats expensive and gas prices there are ungodly. I'll get anouther one when I get back. Ford EXP's are the best trucks on the road in my opinion!
