I have a 1998 Explorer Sport. It has power door locks, but (as far as I know) no keyless entry. I have heard that you can buy a kit that will just plug into the vehicle somewhere and will allow you to unlock the doors by remote. If there is such a thing, could someone provide me with some info on it, if not, how would i go about getting keyless entry in my explorer?

Thanks, Pete :)

I have seen at dealers a key-pad that is wireless and works like a key fob so there is no running of wires... As long as you have remote keyless entry it is a snap...

my 96 has power locks but no RAP which you need.... you can probably get from a wrecker. Anyways, bulldog security make alarm and remote lock/unlock (no you don't have to involve the alarm / remote start, etc). Walmart carries them $50 or so. I just "punched in " to wires in the rear quarter panel (where the relays are)... 15 mins and "Press To" ... remote unlock / lock. I used "fork type" couplers which they don't recommend but the install is quick... just slide them over the wire and they "cut thru" to the copper. There are other methods but they are more "disturbing" and I didn't want to fool around too much.

Ok, thanks for the info. Where on the vehicle would I find the module to plug-in the aftermarket Keyless entry system?

If you read my post.... your "break into" the wiring in the rear cargo panel ... where the jack is kept. The lock / unlock relay block is right there.

the "black box" thing in the link is the equivalent of a RAP. If you are going with a "Ford solution", you could buy a RAP from a wrecker or ebay or from ford, then buy the FOB's and you are set. However, I suspect the cost might a little more.

As for the module in the link.... no it ain't a "just plug it in" solution.... you have to "break in to wiring with "tap" connectors or wire splices.
