Hi all, I've got a power lock motor making noise and the door will not lock or unlock with either the fob or the button. Is the motor toast? I took the door apart today and looked inside and everything is where it is supposed to be. The noise sounds like grinding gears if that helps, best way that I can dezcribe it.

Thanks in advance!

Your actuator is pry bad. When one of mine went out, the door would not unlock or lock unless it was with the manual lock pull. A replacement from the junkyard cured my problem.

I describe the noise mine made as "ERRR". Like two plastic cogs rotating, but one is frozen, and the other one still can turn against it, and slips.

Yea, it reminds me of cracking the throttle on a chainsaw or dirtbike. I kind of figured it was bad, but I haven't had to replace any so I figured it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks!

Sounds like the actuator is dying. Head to the Junk yard and grab one, or two, that way you have a spare. I had to replace mine in the fall, be sure to align it correctly, or it will die quickly again.

What kind of lock actuator you guys have? My 96 XLT sounds like solenoids. Click, when locking or unlocking. And instant action, not slow like geared. My drivers door lock worked slow during the winter. Took multiple try to lock or unlock. When weather warmed, worked like it should, for a while. Now has quit entirely. No movement at all. Time to go to the pull-a-part.

Door latch may be binding. Flush it with brake cleaner and relube with silicone spray. May help, these actuators are weak.
