94 Ex Stock, While driving it will loose power and slow down and RPM drops then it acts like a light switch is turned on and runs fine. Today taking off from a stop sign it barely made it through the intersection with the peddle on the floor then suddenly tires chirp, Rpm came up and we were off. I could understand this problem if it were carburated. Starts fine, runs fine till it acts up. Oh-170000 miles new top end 1 yr ago:scratch:

cel on ? could be egr related or tps related / fuel related ( maybe the filter )

No CEL, ( but it may be burned out) I have a code reader but cant get it to work and the idiots at the shops around here dive straight under the dash to try theirs and dont listen when i tell them its under the hood. I can try the filter for a cheap easy check. The one on it is less than a yr old but that doesnt mean it cant be plugged.

Just remembered, this happened before once. Long trip, on highway lost power. Pulled off highway and the cats were smoking. Engine running cool. All new cooling system (everything) 160 t-stat. Maybe too cool and messing with the computer?

Gonna need more info on this.. I'd check fuel presure on the rail. You'll have to search for more info on that. Get the CEL codes!! That is diagnosing it for you. Get em and fix em. Then keep trouble shooting.

I would second checking fuel pressure ( you may need to rig it up so you can check it when it is stumbling). I'm actually dealing with a similar issue. It appears to be the fuel pump intermittently cutting out. Checking the fuel pressure shows that the fuel pressure drops off when the engine stumbles.
