Power Stearing?

I have a 1996 xlt auto 4dr explorer when i turn it makes a whining sound....... I checked the power stearing fluid and it was fine so it must be a part problem so i better drive up to the junkyard what should I look form a new power stearing colum or what?

Whining doesn't have anything to do with the column.

Sounds more like a pump problem...sometimes they start to whine even when full.

If it's bearable (not a loud whine) and the wheel (steering wheel) isn't skipping in other words it's spinning freely then deal with it for a while I've seen some pumps that last years with a little whine to them.

But to be honest- if I heard it whining- I'd start looking at another pump.

Noises under the hood drive me up the wall.
 






Its not that loud and it doesnt skip...... i just dont want the power stearing to go out on me how much is a pump?
 












WTF hell yes the power stearing pump is only $100 with shipping... on my acura even a hose would have been like $300. I was expecting it to cost like $1000 at least
Thats it only american cars form now on
 






yep, that's the benefits of owning domestic

Cheaper parts, and you can find them in junkyards across the US
