Power steering hose help

Another day,another problem lol.Ok I have a pinhole size leak on the metal tubing part of the hose that's up top[ and in the front of the p.s. pump.I tried using j.b. weld on it but obviously didn't work.I tried following the hose the bottom,but could see the end.Its spraying fluid everywhere so I gotta get it fixed asap.What tools are needed,and whats the best way of going about fixing this thing??I really need help ,and will really appreciate any info,thanks

I've found through experience hydraulic lines require either special hydraulic fitting wrenches (they wrap around the hex end) or vise grip pliers. Most auto parts stores will make up a new hose for you while you wait...I strongly recommend having one made vs. buying one through a catalog that will invariably be the wrong length, bends, fittings, etc. Hope this helps

OP is right, i've looked at this hose and don't know what kind of special tool is required to remove it, but it's definitely not a line wrench or vise-grips. i'm guessing it must be something similar to the tool used on the fuel filter lines.

Whelp, now that I'm home and peeking under the hood; my 97 5.0 will need a line wrench to remove the power steering hose. You can't separate the rubber part from the steel part if that's what you're getting at; it's swaged together as one piece.

no, the 2000's use a different line attaching method.

Odd; parts catalog shows the same hose 1997-2001 and on a 97 they come off with a wrench. I'll be curious as to why yours is different.

i'll have to check it again, but i could swear that the metal part of the line where it attaches to the p/s pump swivels around and i recall looking at it once wondering how it came off.

You guys are worried about the wrong end, the pump end is easy, a open box wrench will work fine on that end but a line wrench is good too, its the end that's on the rack that will make you cuss and make your own tool!

Delexploder is right.The bottom of the hose is the concern.Theres no room at all to get a wrench in there.I was told a "flare" wrench would work.Idk it looks pretty hard to deal with.What do u mean make my own tools?

I have a wrench ( cant remember what size off hand) I cut in half and ground down till it worked, I have done five lines with it and a few friends have borrowed it.

I've a box full of bent/cut/welded wrenches and sockets, used for one-time fixes. I'm guessing when the time comes to replace this hose there'll be another mongrel tool to add to it lol. Good luck. And sometimes you find yourself spending more time removing things that are in the way than the actual thing you're trying to fix!

So is there any short cuts etc to help me out??This is the first time attempting this,I gotta get this fixed asap.Its my wifes daily driver.I don't have any money right that's why I have to fix it.
