Greets!

I am in process of replacing all the steering lines. They are all off and I installed the pressure hose first. Once in place and tight, the metal will wiggle in the fitting. The fitting is definitely tight. Ok, so I thought this cannot be correct so off comes the hose with thoughts of returning it.

Now I find the directions.... what timing! In them it states that -

Late model Ford power steering hoses use a Swivel O Ring fitting on the tube ends. When installed properly these fittings are designed to allow the steel tube to move freely in the fitting while maintaining a positive seal. Swivel and or tube movement is NORMAL and does not indicate an undertightened fitting

This is a first to me. I would really hate to get this all back together and have the lines leak. Can someone confirm that this is true? I will have to get new silicone gaskets for this hose if I use it again but thats ok.

Thanks...

A buddy stopped in. He is a body man and gets into this occasionally. He said that its true that you can wiggle the hose when properly installed. With the hose in your hand, turn the fitting on the tube and it feels like an o ring in the fitting so that must be what seals it.

Went to NAPA to get new silicone crush gaskets for the hose. The guy there had not heard of this either.... but I was able to order some gaskets. 2 pack with 2 different sizes of which I will only use one is $3 or so. What a rip. I can only imagine what Ford wants for that gasket.... they wanted $211 for the pressure hose! LOL

I also bought the 2 lines that go from side to side on the rack Ford quoted me like $5 for one and $11 for the other. When I picked them up the $5 one had changed to $20..... but he remembered quoting me and I got it for $7 which he said was less than they paid. Should have been $5 but oh well.

The gaskets from napa did not fit and they did not have any others available. I wound up buying another hose from napa. It was not as long as the Auto Zone one and was hard to work with but I got all the lines installed anyway. Next I will bleed them and get it running again.... tomorrow.
