Hey guys. So took my truck to the shop today and when I got it back I noticed the drivers window wouldn't go down right. When you pushed the down button it would pop the window our of the track away from vehicle and towards front of truck. But then if you pulled it in it would go down half way and stop. Upon playing with it for a bit it'd go halfway and make a loud pop noise. Kind of like it was getting caught on something. Then it'd go down fine. Did same thing on way up and was fine after it popped.
So question is.... what the hey is wrong wit it???
My friend suggested maybe a stone in the gears?

Sounds like your front window track broke off.

well a little update on my way home from work i was driving and playing with it (oops) and it wouldnt go up at all. it appeared to be jamming itself towards the outside of the door. i honestly thought it might shattered the window it seemed like it was pinching it so hard. but i got it closed and it will stay that way till i figure out what to do.

is this something i can do myself? or should i take it to the shop? the shops said about $250 if its a regulator for parts and labor.... and less if just the track. is that a good price? what you think?

You can do any of this yourself for a LOT cheaper. When you have some time, pop your door panel off. It is super easy.

Pop the piece of trim off behind your door handle and right above it there are 2 phillips screws. Take those out. Then work around the outside of the door to pull the panel off. It is held on by plastic push clips. They even sell a tool for removing trim, but a flat tip screwdriver with some tape around the tip to prevent scratching works just as well if you can't get your fingers behind the panel. Once you have the panel separated all the way around the sides and bottom, it just lifts up and pulls out. Unhook the wire harness to the door switches.

There will probably be some plastic behind it on the door panel, peel it off carefully, since you will probably want to re-use it. You will have to tape it back on to re-use it. From behind there, you will see the regulator and the window track. Plug back in your switches and try and run your window if you can't immediately see the problem. Don't let your window go up and down crooked. Have someone hold the window so it goes straight.

There should be write-ups on this site as well for changing window regulators. I'm not sure about changing tracks. On a first gen, they are tack welded in, so you might not be able to do that yourself if they are the same.
