Recently I had been having problems with my power windows becoming intermittently inoperative. One day when i came home my little trick of opening the doors and turning the key on and off did not work. I was in trouble as my tools and work equipment were all in the expo. I tried this board and there were many opinions but no good solution for my immediate problem. I knew it was not the GEM module, as every other electrical device still and had always worked perfectly. I saw a couple of threads here that had the thorough solution, but no suggestions on what to do to get them up NOW. I think my problem was in a relay that acts ONLY on the power windows, downline from the GEM module, but this did not help me at 5:15 in the evening with $2000 worth of supplies and tools now in my wide open explorer with no hope of a solution. Well I called my local Ford dealer and i was eventually tranferred to a VERY helpful man who spent 40 minutes on the phone with me tracing wiring diagrams and offering this BRILLIANT solution to get my windows up right then. Take off your driver's door panel and look at the wiring of the power window switch. You will see a blue wire with a black stripe. Connect 12V pos to it, either from the fuse box (preferred) or directly from the pos term of your battery. This can also become a permanent solution as it has been for me. Here's how to make it permanent. Pop the top on your fusebox and pull it out of it's space. It's a little bit of a pain. Then get your voltage tester and turn your ignition back to acc. Check your pins until you find a key on pin. (not necessary but i didn't want it totally gerry rigged). By getting a 12v key on pin you make it so the windows will ONLY work when the keys are ON. Pull off the kick panel and trace the wires coming out of the door. You will see the blue black stripe wire. Cut it so you have as much of it to work with as possible. Now take a wire from you key on 12v fuse box pin and hook them together. now you will lose the "convenience" of being able to roll up your windows with the keys off before opening your door. WHO CARES! your windows will now work without having ANY module or relay AND work ONLY with your keys. This saved my a**. I hope it helps someone else out there!! Lovin my 96 V8 and currently at 169,000 miles and she hasn't been towed since i bought her in Jan 03, 42,000 miles ago. Gas is tough at 1.76 a gal and 15mpg, but hey, it's worth it to slide past 4 banger rice rumblers!! Good luck folks. Allen in tampa. GO BUCS!

Thank you for posting this how-to. I too ran in to the same problem. After following your tip I was able to get the windows up, and wifes car back in the garage. Either I do your permanent fix, or figure out what went wrong in the first place. Nonetheless, I can relax now that the windows are up.
