Here the situation: 95 Limited with 229,000 km. Suddenly all power windows don't work. A little detective work and I find out that the windows will work if the driver door is open. When the door gets to about 6" from close, the windows crap out.

So, it must be the wiring harness from the door to the body, right? I start fiddling with the flex harness a couple of times and great, everything works correct again ... for about one day.

I got tired of this so I took the door panel off for a look. Saw nothing obvious. Then I disconnected the harness from the door (big 2" dia. plug in) Still don't see anthing. Pull the rubber plug out of the side of the body and look at the wires. Nothing obvious. Put it all back together and now windows DON'T WORK AT ALL even with the door open.

I think it's the wire harness, and this doesn't look easy to replace. It there a switch or something in the door itself that I'm not aware of?

One further thought: My windows are part down now so no security. I've got to do something fast. Can I hotwire my window control somehow?

It definatley sounds like the harness between the door and the body. I have replaced several of these on different vehicles. Like you said they aren't that simple, but if you have the ability to remove the door pannel, you should be able to replace the harness. You will have to get one either directly from Ford or a wrecking yard. Until you have the time to replace the harness you can roll the windows up by jumping a hot wire to the proper pin on the driver's window switch. You will need to refer to a wireing diagram to locate the pin and wire color for each window, then apply power to that location to roll up that window.

Thanks for the confirmation. I tried the hotwire this pm but with no success yet. I tried to jump the power from the power door locks to the window. Maybe I didn't get the right pins yet. I ran out of time.

Hopefully tomorrow.
