The drivers power window on my 98 explorer appears to "shift" and not follow the track correctly. This makes the window open unevenly and stick. The window only opens about half an inch towards the front of the vehicle and less towards the rear due to the shifting and not following the track.

ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Pull the door panel off and see if anything is binding. Does the window go up/down correctly if you guide/adjust the window while hitting the switch?

Thanks for helping so quick! This site is the best!

The window doesn't appear to have anything in the way keeping it from going down. When I guide it with my hand the window will go down. Raising the window is no problem at all. Once I help the window lower a little bit, it seems to be ok, it's only the first initial opening that seems to shift the window and get it stuck.

Thanks Again!!

It sounds, from your description, that the track is out of adjustment or something gave out. Several components to the mechanisim that will require the panel removed and a visual inspection. Work the window and watch at what point the window binds ar jumps out of the track,. It may be something simple as a loose or broken fastener. One thing to try is to hold the switch up or down, depending what you want it to do, and with your fist just bang on the area of the window motor. If that makes it work, then you have a window motor that needs fixing. Usually the brushes need to be cleaned/replaced. If that changes nothing, than its your track that needs to be looked at.
