My 1996 switches on the drivers door do not light. I suppose that they are supposed to because all the other doors do. I took the panel out and see no bulbs that can be replaced. My question is how do you replace if it is possible. And does the pannel dimmer thumb wheel on the dash light up .And 3rd and last does the mirror control suppose to light up. Thanks

Your dimmer thumbwheel doesn't light up... there is no bulb (note the bulb does light the headlight switch portion). As for your windcw controls on the door and as you indicated as with the other switches / control, there is a light (I haven't replaced that so I am not sure were but possibly removing the other door panel / switch will give you an idea of what you are looking for). On the mirror side of things, the schematic doesn't show a "light" for the power mirrors so i would say no (mine don't light).

HI,
budwich is right the dimmer switch does not light up. As for your window switches, they can be taken apart. You litteraly have to tare the swithc apart to get to the bulbs. However the bubls in the switches are LEDs (atleast in mine they werer). I had to solder new bubls in. YOu can also check to see if there is power going to the switch. If you take the door panel off you will see a black and red wire side by side on the switch harness. There should be power to those when your head lights are on. Maybe someone on here has a pic of the underside of the switches, and they can show you were the black and red wire for lights are located.

Thanks for the info. Thats the kind of answers I was looking for. I have fixed the cruise switches and headlight switch but as bad, as I would like them to work, I will wait untill I have a spare before I try the window switch. Thanks Ed

Can those LEDs be changed to a different color or is the color of the switch determined by color of the plastic on the switch itself?

I've seen alot on here with people using LEDs all over their trucks but I've yet to put any new ones in myself. I'd like to change some of the interior LEDs just to give my X a new look but have never worked with them and am unsure about the power and light diffusion etc.

Can any old radio shack LED be used to replace these switch lights?

Mattbuyshouses, search for a thread called Dont EVER put LED's in behind Insturment cluster. Theres info on LEDs and a couple of links to sites that sell LEDs, Radio shack or wall mart LEDs suck because the viewing angle is only 20 degrees which gives you a small dot of light. You want wide angle bulbs to give you that flood light affect.

Anyone know how to post pics on here?

Hi, while we're on the subject of switch lights, I have a questions too. I have a 2000 Explorer Sport, does the On/Off switch on the Cruise control and Fog light switch light up? I just got the truck recently everything else lights up except these 2 switches. Thanks.
