Hey everyone long time reader here. This forum has helped me out a ton! About 6 months ago I replaced the little plastic bearings on my window motors and it has worked great. BUT I got in big red the other day and my windows had no power from ANY switch. When I turn the key to the ON position I get very weak/slow power from my windows and it just lasts for about 3 seconds then does nothing with no noise and when I start it I get no power or anything from my windows. Maybe a bad ground? If so where is it? I dont have a diagram or anything. Any help is greatly appreciated.

all the windows go thru the drivers door switch i think so i would start there..and the 3 seconds sounds like the auto function trying to work then it stops.

I dont remember the auto function ever working. Didn't even know it had an auto. How could I test the switch?

the switch itself is easy to take apart so you could check the points of contact for corrosion and excess gap. and i think when you have it apart its easy just to jump the switch to get power to the motor but it sounds to me like the switch went bad if all 4 windows dont work (assuming 4 door). you can do this without having to pull the panel off and having to deal with the awesome tree fasteners that always break.

Not to take the torch, but i've gone through and changed the bushings on my driver side front and back motors that didn't work as well. Then recently, after my driver window had been working perfect, it ceased to work anymore. When i press the switch, it does nothing, no sound from the motor, other than a click sound from something else in there when i press down, (regulator?). I've taken the motor apart, cleaned it and regreased where needed, then put it back together now but that has not solved the problem. I've taken the advice you guys gave him about the switchboard wires but those are fine. I've also glanced at the wires and they seem intact. Is this motor straight out of commission?

I took my door panel off today. When I unmounted the master switch my windows starting working great for about 5 minutes then back to no power. All of the wires and points of contact looked great. Guess I will take the motor out and test from there. Thanks for the help.

broken wire where they run from the door to the body?

Haven't check that yet. You would think its a wire since they worked for a minute when I popped the switch out, probably bent a wire and made it work I guess. Not sure but Im starting to get frustrated. Its cold outside and I have no garage!

Bigred... Sounds similar to the problem i had from my 94. It would only click and drop the window 1/8 inch maybe... Inside your drivers door there is a black plastic box.. Pop the cover off it and see if the thin copper strip has broken or burnt. Mine was broke and i taped it back together which worked for a couple months at a time.. Eventually i cut the wires and bypassed the box removing it all together.. Only side effect was no auto window.. Small price to pay for working windows. Just something else you may could look at

It was the Master Window Switch. I bought a used one out of a 94 on ebay for $15 shipped. Better then paying $40 for the Dorman Help Kit. Thanks for the help.

Cool. Glad you figured it out.

I hear you about the no garage thing. I had to change my lower rad hose in -25 C today... had to take breaks to thaw my fingers occasionally.

Yeech...
