Hey everyone,I got a 1991 Ford Explore XL and wanted to pep my engine just a small bit. I saw where you can buy a modified PCM to boost the horsepower and get a quicker response on acceleration. Does anyone know how hard it is to replace this and where the module is located. Thanks

Aldive has done a lot of tunes (looking for more MPGs) for his 2nd Gen.

And, I don't KNOW for sure if "chips" are being done or have been done for 1st Gen vehicles.....though, anything is possible.

If you want to LEARN about EEC-IV (computers, aka: PCM), may I suggest.......

For people who want to learn about Electronic Engine Control, but don't know where to start, I would recommend getting a copy of this book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0837...03#reader-link

It covers EEC-IV but a lot of it applies to EEC V as well. Unfortunately the author died, so it won't get updated, but it is a really good explanation of the Ford EEC-IV system. It explains how the PCM, sensors and actuators work together to control the fuel injection system.

There are also tons of threads on trying to get more HP out of a 1st Gen.

Do a SEARCH......they usually say.....Cheap: exhaust mods and intake mods.
Expensive......sky is the limit.

Aloha, Mark

PS....there is a category/thread area (for computers), chips, tunes and stuff on this web site......might find suggestions about chips and brand names, there.
