Prerunner front bumper for 91-94..any out there?

Duff

You wanna bumper with a winch mount get the Duff..I'm sure you could get a Ramsey brush guard for the same purpose but the Duff just looks better and stronger to me..you could also get the receiver bumper and a multi-mount winch and use it front or back. Just my opinion..and I worked in the accessory business selling and installing Go Rhino, Ramsey and all that.

I would like the Duff prerunner bumpers better if they used some larger tubing, like 2 1/2 - 3" or so. The tubes they use look wimpy to me. I like the size of the tubes in the smittybuilt bumper, but I would rather have a squared off grill guard attached, instead of the round one that doesn't really match the look of our flying bricks (exploders).

I agree and i might take some tubing and run from the bumper, around the fenders to the side steps to protect the fenders.

Around the fender? like a fender cage? thatd be...neat?

2" tubing is plenty big...Duff uses 2" .120" wall tubes...the s#ittybilt tubes LOOK big but are really weak.
(disclaimer: personal opinion and experience)
If you want the looks of big fat tubes fine get the 3" but if you want real strength and something thats gonna hold the winch get the Duff..then again the 3" may hold up for your particular use...the thing is, the Duff costs $100-200 less!
Also, think about this: Duff makes real world offroad accessories with strength and durability in mind-S#ittybilt makes brush guard type prerunners (bolt on to the existing bumper no less) and accessories for looks with making em cheap and fast in mind. :)

some pics..

Also, remember that the ****tybilt bumper is *weak*. How weak you ask? It's only rated for 6k lb winch!

I've already pulled the winch bumper almost apart on my truck. I've been wanting to see an explorer/navajo with the Duff prerunner winch bumper.. Besides, is that thing ready yet?

We might be talking about two different things, because the smittybuilt bumper I was talking about is a bumper replacement, not a bolt on to the original. Also, if the Duff is $200 cheaper, that would put it at about $30. If its $30 I'll go ahead and get the 2" tubing ;)

no

I was just referring to the "prerunner" that s#ittybilt makes...it covers the original bumper..doesnt DO anything. I realize you are looking at the twin tube bumper from s#ittybilt....usually $299 - 399. If you are just going for looks and can get a deal for $230 and you want that fine go for it. We are saying the Duff bumper, and Duff products in general, are made better, tougher, and can actually USE the winch you say you plan to have on your truck. TDavis on this very post is telling you the s#ittybilt bumper is falling apart on his truck from using the winch.
If you like the 3" and all that go get it, just dont plan on using it for anything and dont complain when it falls apart if you hit something or actually use the winch. :D

Once again now I'd like to touch on the old subject. I just checked with Duff and for now or at least not till the end of February front ProRunner bumpers for Explorer are not available. Simple reason----the first ones were falling apart under stress from winching. They are reworking it. At least that's what I got after talking to the guy. They are also working on some other things for Explorer. As far as Smittybilt, their bumper can take 5000-6000 lbs Warn winch. I bet there are plenty of improvements that can be made to that bumper in order to handle an 8000 or bigger Warn or Ramsey. Rick did it on his "original" rig. He had that very same bumper and a Ramsey mounted on it. Dennis Myers has that bumper and awinch although I don't know if he had to reinforce it. I'm getting this bumper and winch mounting plate and after installing I'm gonna reinforce it so it can take my Ramsey winch with no harm. Either this or wait for Duff or just simply get Ramsey's brush guard for about $374.00 MSRP.

Anyway, were you able to come-up with a bumper for your ride????

Later,

Re: bumper?

Hey Anime4x4,

Tried to send you an email but your settings don't allow.
If you don't find someone to fabricate it for you, email me.

I fit and weld neat stuff but am a ways from you (Va.). Made another bumper (rear) for Christmas that reduced from 3" ips to 1" ips (sch 40) w/ concentric reducers. Might be able to help with one made out of flimsy tubing ;-) like you want. Have no idea what shipping would be and would need decent sketches w/dimensions to work by. All my bumpers and such go out unpainted too. Mostly do it for friends or trade.

well

Thanks for the replies...

Right now I'm still stuck with no bumper, and was about to just drop it all and get the Duff...BUTTT It turns out a good buddy of mine has a buddy with a welder, so I'm gonna try and get my hands on a tube bender and some 2" .120 tubing (gotta find a place) and do it myself. If I screw up real bad or cant get it to work, I'll have to get it built anyway...

making your Bumper

If the tubing wrinkles when you bend it, it may help to pack it with sand. Not as good as a mandrel but it helps.

Some benders won't bend to the radius you desire. Butt weld elbows are an option. They come in short, standard, and long radius 45 and 90 degree elbows for tube and pipe. Remember to verify both the radius and the OD before buying them.

Good Luck, Bob

Duff is not ready yet but if you need just a bumper you might want to consider Smittybilt again. 4wheelparts.com have these for Explorer at $229.00 plus shipping. Not bad. Performance Products have these too. Sometimes all you have to do is call since they don't put all their products in their cataloges. Same with CarParts.com. I called them the other day and they too have these in stock. Too bad they don't take that 33% off coupon anymore aotherwise I would of bought the stuff there.

Anyway, good luck bending!

well

Andre no offense but the only way I'd put smittybilt anything on is if it were free...I'd get the duff any day of the week..I just want a PRERUNNER (impact/skid bumper..for real use not looks) and noone makes them..there are prerunner LOOKING bumpers but they will bend if you hit something..

Thanks for the tips..any other bending advice would be appreciated...oh is 2" conduit tubing ok? Maybe that sounds dumb but it looked pretty thick at Home Depot..you know they quit selling Metric size bolts? Man....

Pre-Runner Bumper

My friend had a 96 Ford F-250 with a PHAT Custom Pre Ran bumper. I'll get pics to ya soon. He got it done at a Fly-n-Hi in Phoenix AZ. I'll be back w/more details later.

I believe that if I can get some work done on the Smitty it will do what I want it to and also I need it for my winch as well. Like I said, Duff is not ready with their stuff yet. Now, as far as conduit? that's just an electric pipe to run wires, I've got one of those and used it with my push bar but basically for looks. It bends, dents very easy. It's kind of like an oxymorron, you are looking for good, strong bumper and then you mention conduit pipe. lol

Don't buy it, you'd be better off with solid, steel 1 1/2 or 2 inch water or gas pipe.

Just my two cents worth.
