The wife needed 4 wheel drive so we bought a used 04 limited in Oct. It was in great shape except for one thing, some kind of oil leaking from the dome light. Kinda went away over the winter but really came back this spring. Finally took the center console off all the way and was very surprised. I had posted the whole thing in the 02-05 explorer thread. You can see pictures and how my dumb ideas changed as I did more investigating. If I didn't hate interior work so much I would have opened the whole thing up right away. Just always afraid I'm gonna break some plastic tab or something.

i dont know what to say... how could that get there? through the top of the sunroof?

lmfao! Ok at first I thought you mistaked the dog food as mouse droppings and the painball paint as mouse piss.

Dog food and paintballs...

but wtf? LOL

A mouse can get though a hole the size of their head. There is plenty of room for them to crawl up the side panels or basically where there is enough room to run wires. I would be scared to see if it had more stashes in the ceiling panel over the cargo area or back seat area. There could be a whole bag of dog food stored up there!

omg that is disguisiting thank god u found all that stuff u should check everywhere else inside the car to see if u find mroe stuff

I hope he is actually out of the truck...

Dude, not to laugh at your expense, but thats hilarious... :lol

I hope that was it, and hes really out of there.

I have seen mice do alot of things, but...

Paintballs?! The dog food I get....

:lol

Glad you got it figured out.

I'm sorry, sir... I can't help but laugh at your situation. I'd like to know how the hell that got up there!

That is the craziest thing ive seen in a long time...
I know mice like to take stuff to their hideout, dogfood eh, understandable..but PAINTBALLS??

And WHY THE HELL in an explorer?
How the HELL did it get it up there??

I'd suggest borrowing a small dog, that's hungry, and let him sniff out any other
stashes that might be there. Hopefully that was the only one, but probably not. Check the wiring and insulation under the hood too, in case there's been any chewing there.

If you look underneath one with a sunroof, you'll see that the drain lines come down at the front base of the front door. If I were a mouse looking for a room with a view, I'd hop up on the inside of the front wheel, hop to the control arm, up to the frame rail, along the frame rail to the A-pillar base, and follow the hose right up the inside of the hollow A-pillar, keeping right at the fork where the a-pillar meets the roof and door opening, and that should put me right above the console... nice and warm in the winter, sunroof vented in the summer, nice skylight to light the place up when you're not around... Genius! (Not to mention, opportunistic)

I know there's a chase there as that's the route the drain hose for the sunroof takes.

Dayum... Did'ja get the mouse at least?
