We just had the motor & tranny rebuilt in our 98 EB 4.0... aside from a vibration issue, she runs goooood..

But, the above has been sitting on CL for a while now (re-listed quite a bit for a while now)... is $3k a "fair" price for that truck? Our 98 is the only Ex we've owned... and they sure are addicting. That one would become my "toy".. but I'm in NO hurry to buy another truck right now (next month I'll officially be a daddy--our first daughter). It would be nice to have a "backup" vehicle in case something went wrong with our 98... at least that's what my wife will be told, the 99 would just be my toy that I might consider picking up if it runs good and shifts good... would consider lifting it or something similar down the road.

Well, The pricing seems to be all over the map, literally. Different parts of the country are getting different prices. I'm in the northeast, and that truck would sell for just about what it is listed for, but not much more. It all depends on how well it "shows", like any weird cupping on front tires, any rust, what does the interior look like, etc etc.

I'd want to see more pics and stuff, I'll bet you could take it home for $2k + t/t/p Gas prices are rising again... Doesn't look too bad though...

Ah that's true @ pricing... I'm not in any real hurry to grab another truck, but I definitely would like to snag another Ex, preferably a V8 this time :).

There are quite a few available around here on craigslist, and I'm sure there are even more in the local papers, etc... I'll keep checking around, maybe prices will go down too. Or if it does sell before I'm ready, there are still plenty of others available.

Are all XLT's equipped with a V8? Or some? or none? Not really familiar with anything but my EB :)

3000 is a little high for that milage here in michigan, but the V8 is an unkillable beast

xlt was a trim package and the v8 was an upgrade from there

Ah ok thanks for the clarification :)

I think hes local to the truck, so if your interested in it and are "kinda looking" go check it out. I agree with Joe Dirt, I bet you could be driving the V8 home for around 2 grand to 2300. If thats in your price range and it checks out, (and really check it out, even pay a mechanic to do it) then go for it. You wont have the "rebuliding" worries (or at least it doesnt happen anywhere near as often) with the V8.

Yeah, I would like to avoid spending over $3k if I could, just in case I do need money for upcoming repairs.

I might go look at it... not in any real hurry to get one, and there are plenty around.. that combined with the fact it hasn't sold in a good while should make him want to come down in price if I were to wave some cash in front of him I'm sure.

Thanks all :)

The V8 ones are definately harder to find here in the northeast. I dont know if thats because people that have them, keep them or if they didnt sell that well up here. I'm more inclined to believe they are keeping them. There are precious few in the junkyards as well, although cash-for-clunkers helped some.
