I was thinking of selling my 97 Sport, KBB states the value is $2000, but I am trying to determine a fair price as it has only 29400 mile on it, been garaged since day 1 and has only been out in the snow the first couple years I have owned it. It is in just about showroom condition and has been maintained meticulously.....I was thinking $4000 because of the pristine condition?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Prices vary by location. I paid $1400 for a clean '97 Sport last spring. It had 213K on it, but with a rebuilt engine and trans. $2000-$2500'ish sounds about right to me for a '97 with 30k on it. You can always start high and come down. The number of interested people will tell you when your hitting a reasonable price.

$2000-2500 depending on your local market.

For what it's worth, here's what I've paid for Explorers over the past 5 years... all from CL ads.

2001 XLT 2WD SOHC (POS) $2,000 in fall 2011 (overpaid)
2001 EB 2WD 5.0L loaded (pristine) $4100 in summer 2012 (probably overpaid, but love it)
2000 Mountaineer 2WD 5.0 loaded (near pristine) $2150 in fall 2012
2000 Mountaineer AWD 5.0 loaded (good condition) $2100 in winter 2013
1997 Sport 2WD SOHC (clean, good condition, rebuilt engine & trans) $1400 in spring 2014
2000 XLT 2WD 5.0 loaded (fair condition, 4 new tires and new battery) $1500 in fall 2014

All of these had quite a bit more than 30,000 miles, but none (other than the 2001 XLT) had any serious problems.

I read the OP wrong, thought that said 294,000.

amended my other post.

Low mileage can command only so much premium. It is still a 97 model year, and it isn’t a classic. Two to two and a half sounds about right.

Extremely/abnormally low mileage vehicles can sometimes fetch ridiculously high numbers on ebay. If it is anywhere near "showroom" condition as you describe you should list it there and see what the global automotive market dictates. Pictures are worth 1000 words.

Near St Louis a Chevy dealer has a 98 with 60K listed for $8991. (shoot for the moon, right?)

In Green Bay a new car superstore has a 1-owner 97 with 71K listed for $3700

Third is in Las Vegas - a Ford dealer has this 96 with 85K for $7K

I would think between $4000-5000 to the right buyer, given how rare it is for a 97 Sport to have such low mileage. If it really has been garaged and babied its entire life, its almost as good as a new vehicle. Got any pics? i'm curious to see it.

I sold my 98 XLT with just over 100K miles on it for $4,000 bucks in 2013.
Condition and the right marketing will get you a descent buck.

Dang. I wish I could find deals like that on CL. I search all the time too. If you find a pristine Explorer send me a PM. Looking to add another one.

There were a couple of decent ones a saw in the past month or so. I think with fuel prices being down I'm seeing the prices going up a bit. If your serious (I'm looking at CL for the Atlanta area) I'll let you know if I see something. I look pretty much every day, although I'm not looking to add another one right now.
