bluestream1 sent me these three PDF files regarding 97-01 SOHC Explorers and Mountaineers.

The 38 pages are instuctions for different engines and models. For our SOHC engine its about 12 pages. I have the same document already scanned to a PDF file. I will email it to anyone who knows how to post a link so others can download the doc.

Updates

This file is a Must Have for anyone with the SOHC engine.
Although the foot note says Mustang, the entire document references a engine with a balance shaft. I don't think that was ever used in a Mustang, or did they make a 4x4 Mustang?

However, that document is not 100% clear on the timing of the balance shaft. There are timing marks on the balance shaft....it doesn't if thats what should be lined up or not. I assumed that was the case, but still have a vibration now that the engine is back together. There is no drawing showing the marks.

I am thinking that maybe I just have it a tooth or so off.

Not sure I understand what they mean by this comment:

What is the reversal shaft?

The balance shaft is not connected directly to the sprocket, there is a gear reduction in between. 7 to 1 ratio. So for every seven turns of the balance shaft the sprocket will turn one time. Another way to think of it is the balance shaft is spinning 7 times faster then the engine. And in the opposite direction.

(At least I believe that's the ratio.)

Also I fixed that link for Balance Shaft Timing, It wasn't working right.

Hey Bob, Looks like a fantastic reference source! I'm having trouble reading them though.

I can download but then get an error stating the file can't be opened. That it has been corrupted as an email attachment.

V-6 vin "E" rebuild problems

Hey Bob & Michael,

I'm in the process of doing a rebuild on my 1999 Explorer 4x4, with the sohc vin "E" motor, and need HELP VERY MUCH. It spun the #1 rod bearing and when I pulled the pan cover I found it full of timing cassette plastic and metal parts so now it's going to be a major rebuild.

Is there some way you fellows can hook me up with the above info as Ripway won't let me access any of it. Your info would make my life a LOT EASIER, which I need very much.

This rebuild is going to be VERY costly and I've found some good prices from a place called "Parts Dinosaur" and "AutoParts4America" off of E-Bay. Don't know anything about either of them do you; or should I buy "genuine Ford parts" which are much higher cost?

Please help me with this delima and offer advise.
