Hi everyone. I'm new here and this is my first post.

I have a 1996 Explorer Sport that recently developed a problem with the instrument panel lights ie, they won't come on. After consulting with a mechanic, he said the problem was probably in the headlight switch.

I removed the bottom panel under the steering column and the the one over the top and pulled the radio out just a bit to gain access to the switch and replaced it. before putting everything back together, I turned it on to make sure the instrument panel lights were working and they were as was everything else.

When I started to reinstall the radio, the alarm system activated and I cannot get it to disarm by following the procedures in the book. Now the truck won't start from the key. I can start it by jumping over the starter relay, however. This truck is key entry and does not have a remote control for the door locks. It does have power locks however.

I even tried disconnecting the battery to reset it and that doesn't work either.

The funny thing about this is, I bought this truck used and never even knew it had an alarm system. It has never given any indication that it did. It has been totally inoperable until now. The indicator light on the dash has never worked in other words.

I'd like to totally disable the alarm or at least reset it so the truck will start.

Does anyone know how to do this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mike
