So the slip part of the axle shaft has such a good seal, the echo spring does not have enough pressure to push the shaft back towards the diff. I get a tapping/knocking noise over every little bump. Anyone run into this. Considering running the internal spring in addition maybe. I can move the inner shaft back and forth with a lot of resistance and mimic the sound. Really annoying when driving.

Your spring is too tight!
The collar should be moved back, in your case it looks like a weld not a collar to stop the backside of the spring

I ditched the “seal” long ago it won’t hold up against the spring. The “seal” on your setup looks to be like 1/2” long? Very interesting

I just had mine apart this weekend if you need any info she is still sitting on jack stands

I ran the internal spring for many years, it does not work nearly as well as the external.
For the internal spring you must weld up the dust cap, and then I blew three of those out..
Eventually I welded a larger washer on top of the welded dust cap… that held but the springs I ran never held up in there they would Just smash flat over time

My echo spring is held in place by a two piece collar that I clamp to the axle shaft.. I adjusted it so the spring is not under so much tension that I could barely get the spindle on

Working good thus far
I think your spring is too tight at ride height

Could you take a picture of yours and post it? Should the inner axle be riding on the diff all the time. Yeah, the seal is a pain. Even on the vice testing the spring, putting the 2 shafts together was a dang good seal, like an air shock. I didn’t pack it with grease either, only a thin film, since there is a seal and a boot. So you say the seal looks thicker than normal, maybe not pressed all the way in? Maybe if I ditch the seal, I won’t have this problem?

I don’t have the seal the spring beats them up because they are soft

I would remove the seal that will give your spring some wiggle room

The outer boot does a good job of keeping the gunk out and grease in

You want enough tension to keep the stub shaft in the diff at all times… but not too much to where it eats the splinter washer and spindle bearing
The echo spring works good for this!

On your setup I would try removing the shiny seal, that should help!

I’ll get a pic or two of my aetup

Cool! Thank you! I’m going to take out that seal, the sound is driving me nuts.
