So like the title says I have owned my 2001 ford explorer sport for 2 weeks now and have noticed a few things wrong with it.

The first main thing is the shift lever.Whenever I put the car into reverse the shift lever kinda snaps into the gear. It doesn't feel as smooth as when I shift into Drive or Park. I have found out through here that I should check to make sure all the bolts on the shift lever are tight. Hopefully that is all it is.

My second problem is that I will sometimes have a clunk noise when I come to a complete stop. It usually happens if I press on the brakes consistently hard when I come to a stop. If I release a little it of pressure before completely stopping it usually doesn't do it.

Third problem is I hear a squeaking noise around like 3-5 mph when I brake and sometimes when I accelerate. The brakes on the car are basically brand new so I don't think they should be still squeaking.

Something else is sometimes when I turn my radio volume control down it will actually turn the volume up. Not sure whats up with that.

If you have any suggestions for any of my problems let me know. Also just wanted to say this is a great site and is probably a big reason why I have owned three explorers haha. Thank you for your help!!

For your first problem, I haven't come across that one so hopefully someone else can help you.

For the second, I had the same problem a few weeks after getting my '97. A few months later I started feeling a thumping under the drivers seat followed by clunking and jolting after reversing for a few feet. A Few months after that...I was swapping out the transfer case. I'm not sure what the problem was since I haven't dissected the old transfer case yet, but that solved the problem for me.

For the third, try greasing the slide pins on the calipers. That may help get rid of the low speed noise. Also try removing the pads and putting some Anti-Squeele (spelling and appropriate name?) on the back of the pads.

For the radio, Is it a factory one? Either way its probably an internal problem with the radio. It would probably be cheaper to go buy a new aftermarket one instead. Better sound and better features to be had there.

Hope this helps.

Keith

Thanks for your help Keith. I also forgot to mention that sometimes when I shift from reverse to drive the car starts to shake when I first start moving forward and then goes away almost immediately.
