My lockout hubs will not automatically release on my 99 Ranger. I've repaired all of the vacuum leaks, replaced the "O" rings, and replaced one lockout hub assembly. If I tear them apart and reset them they will disengage and re-engage but are locked again.

Any advice.

You don't have locking hubs in your Ranger. '97 was the last year for the rangers. They will be always locked in. I'm not sure if there's a vacuum disconnect on the axle housing. Someone else will be able to verify that.

Thanks! That would explain things. My manual was definitely not clear on that point.

A 99 ranger has the possiblity of having the pulse vacuum hubs you really need to replace them with a set of AVM Hubs. if i remember right tellico has them for about $100 or so a set

Indeed, the 99 Ranger should have the pulse-vacuum hublocks. Another great idea from the engineering putzes here at Ford.

97 was the last year for the weak auto-locking hubs. 98 and 99 (and possibly '00??) went to a lousy PVH setup... They finally did away with all vacuum in lieu of a live front axle.
