Problems with dash lights.

I have a 96 xlt and I'm having a problem with some dash lights. First off, the stereo (factory) buttons don't light up at all when the headlights are on. The display works fine, just can't see the buttons at night. Also, on the instrument cluster, the O/D off light and the cruise control light does not light up when the headlights are on. Turn the headlights off and they work. Has anyone else had this problem?

Well.. I guess I'm stuck taking it to the Ford dealer when there is something I can't figure out. Thanks anyway.

It is a bit unusual. I think the dial light on the radio is pretty common and probably unrelated to the dash issue.
I would suspect a grounding issue in the cluster, but hard to armchair diagnose.
a electrical diagram and some testing would probably narrow it down a bit.
