I tried to take my driveshaft out the other day and had a few problems. First of all I took out the bolts at the end with the diff and had no problems there but got to the end with the transfer case and couldn't get the drive shaft off. I took out the 4 bolts but the thing wouldn't come off. Do I just have to pry it off or is there something else holding it on? By the way the reason I was taking it out was to lubricate the slip yoke because I was getting the clunking sound. So since I couldn't get the whole driveshaft out I thought that I would just undo one of the clamps that holds the dust boot (or whatever you call it) on and just pulled the long end of the driveshaft out and greased the slip yoke. It got rid of the clunking noise but then I thought about something. The driveshaft is a balanced unit right? So would I have to put the slip yoke back in the same position for it to be balanced or would it not matter how I put it in? If it does matter how you put it in, is there anyway to tell by driving if the driveshaft is out of balance. Also could anyone give me an estimate for how much it would be to see if the driveshaft is unbalanced or to rebalance it, and a good place to take it like the dealer or midas or someplace else. I might be going down to moab this weekend not to wheel the ex but to play around on our 4 wheelers and it's a long trip so I don't want to be driving for a long ways if the driveshaft is all messed up. Escpecially towing the two four wheelers. Oh and I am a real beginner when it comes to taking apart my truck. I'm mostly learning everything from this sight and a Chilton's manual. So try not to make fun of me to bad when it comes to different terms for words and all that stuff. Thanks
